The idea of nostalgia has become a growing consumer trend as more people seek wholesome entertainment, reminders of childhood, and fun, playful foods and drinks. Millennial and Gen Z culture has been instrumental in this re-imagining of the past, often referencing the ideas of yesteryear to create new and unique interpretations of their own.

Food and beverage product lines are jumping on the nostalgia trend with old-school packaging and throwback products, such as greeting cards made from reused packaging, Nerd candy original flavors, and bakery cookies with Nintendo designs. We want YOUR ideas on how to leverage the appeal of nostalgia by introducing a new food form that is reminiscent of days gone by.

Deliverables

Propose a new food form with a nostalgic twist. If your idea incorporates or is based off of a pre-existing item, please make sure your idea presents a new interpretation or vision of it. Specifically, please answer the following:

  1. Describe your idea for a nostalgic new food form in detail. What product category does it belong in? Is your food a completely novel idea, or a brand new vision based off of a pre-existing item?
  2. What about this new food form makes it nostalgic? Is it the flavor, the look of the packaging, or it's association with a past memory or time?
  3. Which age, memory, or period of time will it remind consumers of? Who would this product most appeal to?
  4. Include a visual if it will help illustrate your idea!


Considerations:

-Please do not submit responses that simply re-introduce a food from the past. We are seeking creative, new food offerings!

-The following food categories are good areas to focus on, but we are interested in ideas outside of them as well:

-beverages

-breakfast

-on-the-go snacking

-sweet goods

-cereal

-ice cream

-condiments
